 on) who fly around the world trying to ride the ocean’s giant waves and 
 the scientists who are urgently trying to understand their destructive p
 owers.\n\nFrom the tsunami that killed 250\,000 people in the Pacific in
  2004 to the 1740-foot wave that recently leveled part of the Alaskan co
 ast\, Casey takes readers on a journey around the world as the surfers r
 ide monster waves in California\, Hawaii and Tahiti. She talks to source
 s including a marine salvage expert in South Africa\, a scientist at the
  National Oceanography Center in Southampton England who experienced the
  largest recorded waves in history while on a research vessel.\n\nCasey’
 s first book\, the New York Times bestseller "The Devil’s Teeth\," was a
 bout the time she spent following two biologists and their pioneering fi
 eld research on great white sharks in the Farallon Islands. She has repo

 s event will include remarks by author/actress Stephanie Kallos ("Broken

 read it aloud to my sons just last summer."\n\nThe program will also fea
 ture an excerpt from "Scout\, Atticus and Boo\," a documentary by Mary M

 d Wagoner has published 18 books of poems\, and ten novels\, one of whic
 h\, "The Escape Artist"\, was made into a movie by Francis Ford Coppola.
   He has won many prizes\, was the chancellor of the Academy of American
  Poets for 23 years and is professor emeritus of English at the Universi
 ty of Washington. He currently teaches in the low-residency MFA Program 
 of the Whidbey Island Writers workshop.\n\nJanée J. Baugher is a former 
 Jack Straw Writer and has performed at Bumbershoot\, Get Lit! and the Ar
 ts Edge Arts Festival. Since receiving an MFA degree from Eastern Washin
 gton University\, Baugher has taught at Highline Community College\, UW 
 Experimental College and the Richard Hugo House.  A former poetry editor
  of Willow Springs and Switched-on Gutenberg\, Baugher regularly collabo
 rates with visual artists\, composers and choreographers. Her debut coll
 ection of poems is "Coordinates of Yes" (Ahadada Books\, 2010).\n\nDebor
 ah Woodard's poetry and translations have appeared in Action Yes\, Filte
 r\, La Petite Zine\, the Threepenny Review\, Yale Italian Poetry\, Zolan
 d Poetry and elsewhere.  Her first full-length collection\, "Plato's Bad
  Horse"\, appeared in 2006 (Bear Star Press).  Her most recent books are
  "Hunter Mnemonics" (hemel press\, 2008) and "The Dragonfly"\, a transla
 tion of Amelia Rosselli's poetry.  Woodard teaches at the Richard Hugo H
 ouse.
