DESCRIPTION:The Golden Age of Trucking Museum will be hosting “Who’s Dri
ving?” Legendary Stars and Legendary Cars an exhibit of portraits on can
vas by artist Chris Osborne. The exhibit will be on display in The Found
er’s Gallery at 1101 Southford Road in Middlebury\, Conn through Decembe
r of 2010. \n Recipient of the 2007 National Society of Painters in Ca
sein & Acrylic (NSPCA) Prize\, the Classic Car Club of America 2003 Fine
Art Award of Excellence\, and the Glenmoor Gathering (Ohio) 2007 Best o
f Show award\, Chris Osborne pays homage to the American automobile by w
ay of the art of portraiture. “There are key things in American culture
that absorb my attention\, the fabulous cars of decades past\, the colo
rful people who drove them\, the Hollywood Golden Age\, and the true Ame
rican musical genres\, Jazz & Blues. Any combination of these elements
may appear in my work. After exhaustive factual research and the use of
figurative models\, I like to apply an imaginative view of history\, br
inging to the present a candid moment in time shared with the viewer.”\n
Raised in New Milford\, Connecticut\, Osborne received a BA in Art from
Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson NY and an MFA in printmaking from th
e University of Wisconsin-Madison. After an extended stay on Martha’s V
ineyard in the 1970’s\, she moved to New York City\, working with legend
ary artist’s agent Jane Lander representing a group of illustrators with
a preference toward fine art. This pivotal move guided Chris toward fi
gurative drawing and painting\, and in the mid-1980’s she left the agent
profession to pursue art on her own. Over the decade of the 1990’s Chr
is supplemented her work by managing the Jazz & Blues department at Towe
r Records Lincoln Center\, the largest retail record store in New York\,
which put her significantly in the midst of the music world. It was an
experience that will forever enrich her painting\, as she is currently
working on a history of Jazz and a history of Blues in visual form\, dec
ade by decade\, city by city\, with the American automobile as a natural
focal point.\nChris has exhibited widely in galleries and art associati
ons in the Northeast and New York City\, along with invitational exhibit
s at annual Collector Car events such as the Kruse Auction in Auburn\, I
ndiana\, the Louisville Concours d’Elegance\, the Hamptons Concours d’El
egance\, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles\, the Las Veg
as Concours d’Elegance\, the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance\, and
the Classic Car Club of America annual gathering in Hickory Corners\, Mi
chigan. She was the CCCA poster artist for 2005. In April & May of 2006
the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum and Kruse Museum in Indiana exhibited
her work in a solo show. \nRegular museum admission applies and members
are always free. For questions please contact the museum at 203-577-218
1 or visit the web site at www.goldenagetruckmuseum.com. The Golden Age
of Trucking Museum is a non-profit organization and open year round Tues
day through Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 12-4.

DESCRIPTION:Built in part in Danbury\, it’s been circling the earth – an
d advancing our understanding of the universe – for nearly 20 years. Now
\, the Hubble Space Telescope has returned to Fairfield County and share
s its celestial wonders in the IMAX movie “Hubble” at The Maritime Aquar
ium at Norwalk.\n\n“Hubble” takes audiences through distant galaxies at
 11 a.m. and 1 & 3 p.m. daily through June 24 on the Aquarium’s six-story
screen – the largest in Connecticut.\n\n“With its ability to look deep
into space with great clarity\, the Hubble Space Telescope has had a pro
found impact on the way we view the universe and ourselves\,” said Chris
Loynd\, the Aquarium’s marketing director. “It’s only fitting that some
of Hubble’s discoveries be shared in a format that also is unmatched in
its size and clarity: on IMAX film.”\n\n“Hubble” was filmed by NASA ast
ronauts aboard the space shuttle Atlantis in May 2009. Through the power
of the immersive IMAX format\, audiences will almost feel the weightles
sness of space\, but also the weighty task facing the space-walking astr
onauts assigned to carry out the final mission to update the telescope.
“Hubble” also offers an incredible never-before-seen “flight” through Hu
bble imagery\, providing a first-person journey from the Orion Nebula to
the far reaches of our universe.\n\nThe Hubble Space Telescope has been
called the most important scientific instrument since Galileo’s origina
l telescope. Named after American astronomer Edwin Hubble\, the telescop
e was designed to operate above Earth's turbulent and obscuring atmosphe
re and to observe celestial objects at ultraviolet\, visible and near-in
frared wavelengths. It was launched aboard the space shuttle Discovery o
n April 24\, 1990\, and deployed into orbit the next day.\n\nHubble’s Da
nbury Connection\nHubble's primary mirror and optical system was built b
y the Perkin-Elmer Corp. in Danbury. (That Perkin-Elmer business is now
Goodrich Corp. ISR Systems in Danbury.) The 2009 Hubble servicing missio
n that was filmed in IMAX for “Hubble” included the installation of a ne
w fine guidance sensor – built in Danbury by Goodrich ISR Systems – that
will add years of productive life to the telescope. \n\n“Hubble” is an
IMAX Corp. and Warner Bros. Pictures production\, in cooperation with Na
tional Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). \n\nThe film is narr
 ated by actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

DESCRIPTION:Singers Needed for the Second Annual Southington Sings “A Ka
raoke Contest” to benefit Southington Community Services and the communi
ty.\n\nSouthington Sings “A Karaoke Contest” to benefit Southington Comm
unity Services proved to be a great success last year and raised over $6
\,000 to help feed many needy citizens. \nEvery Wednesday\, for the next
  6 wks starting July 21st at 8pm Machiavelli’s Restaurant (75 Center Str
eet\, Southington) citizens from Southington and the surrounding area ar
e invited to compete to win a grand prize of a Vacation to the St James
Club Antigua. Bill Lynch of The Vacation Center and the owners of Machi
avelli’s Restaurant (Spendi & Maribel) are excited to get this contest
off the ground. Spendi has also mentioned that he will be offering a m
eal special each one of the event nights. For details on this you can c
ontact Machiavelli’s Restaurant.\nContestants from Southington and the s
urrounding areas will show off their singing talents while also helping
to support the community. There will be a donation (a cover charge of
$5) at the door. Each person attending will receive a Machiavelli chip
for their donation that in turn will be used to receive a free drink. \n
The volunteer judges\, Charlie Cocuzza (of Omega Communications)\, Sue S
mayda (Executive Library Director Southington)\, and Melissa Ericksen (o
f A Balanced Life) each have expressed excitement at doing this again.
\nSign-ups for the competition will start July 15th and winners from ea
ch week will be asked to come back for the semi finals and finals. Bill
at The Vacation Center suggests that those interested should call 860-6

nt to sign up early due to the limited number of contestants that can co
mpete each week. Ages of the contestants have ranged from 21 & up \nThe
