Bill Keane - Incandescence & Atmosphere

Wink Art & Design
87 Whitfield Street
Guilford, CT 06437
Ongoing through Sunday, March 28, 2010

In sponsorship with Magna Chrome, Wink Art & Design is pleased to present the large format images of photographer and documentarian, Bill Keane.

This vibrant exhibition celebrates Images of Stone, Steel & Glass—permanently impressed on archival aluminum using a unique, high temperature bonding process.

Each cityscape or industrial vista caught in Keane's lens are treated with a reverence often reserved for the cathedral or sacred space. The places are familiar, but Bill's daring vantage points and lighting choices open up the viewer to the inspiration laying dormant in the mundane.

Bill Keane was born in Caracas, Venezuela, but spent his formative years in New Jersey. After attending both the University of Miami and Drew University, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and an Master of Divinity (cum laude).

Ordained an American Baptist minister in 1983, Bill has served in Australia and Connecticut, making two appearances on "LIVE with Regis and Kathie Lee," and producing more than 80 public service and religious-based radio commercials airing on 96.5TIC-FM, STAR 99.9-FM and WEBE 108-FM.

After picking up his first 35mm camera as a college graduation present, Bill hasn't put it down. As a writer and photographer Bill's words and images have won several awards and found publication in magazines such as Australian Camera Craft, TIME and NEWSWEEK.

Recently Keane received two First Place prizes at the 2009 Durham Fair. He was also awarded 1st Place in the Olympus Inc. Summer Competition, as well as Best Documentary in both the 2000 and 2001 ATT Television CAP Awards.

Bill has followed a life of service that has taken him into many challenging environments and exposed him to one-in-a-lifetime experiences. Tragedy called Bill to work as an on-site chaplain at Ground Zero from October 2001 through June 2002, under the auspices of the Salvation Army. While there, he documented the bravery and human compassion he was seeing during his ministrations. WTNH-TV News Channel 8 featured his images for a story about the tragedy and hope of 9/11.

From September to October 2005, Bill worked in New Orleans as a chaplain with the US Department of Health and Human Services. His work involved recovering the remains of those who perished during Hurricane Katrina.

Bill is married to Lisa Bachiochi with whom he has three wonderful children: Amanda, Billy, and Niue—along with one fine son-in-law, Joe.

Bill Keane's work will be on display at Wink Art & Design until March 28, 2010.

His full photographic portfolio may be viewed at www.billkeane.zenfolio.com

The Magna Chrome process represents a new art medium for preserving photos by infusing dyes directly into specially coated metal sheets. The high gloss coating takes on an almost magical luminescence. Because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, the archival qualities of this unique process are unparalleled.

You've never seen a more brilliant impressive print before. Colors are vibrant and the luminescence is breathtaking. Detail and resolution are unsurpassed.

To compliment this unique printing method, the company has developed three ultra-modern ways to hang Magna Chrome prints. The old days of matting, framing and protecting with glass are over.

Features of Magna Chrome Metal Prints:

* Brilliant luminescent images
* Durable archival prints without glass
* Ultra-Hard scratch-resistant surface
* Modular contemporary framing system

Listen to an interview with Bill Keane at www.talkshoe.com…

Price - Low: 0
Contact: Lynn Ciecierski 203-453-5921
More info: www.digitalwink.com

EXHIBIT: A Bird’s Eye View: Citizen Science and Social Networks

Fairfield Museum and History Center
370 Beach Road
Fairfield CT 06824
Monday, March 22, 2010, 10am – 4pm

EXHIBIT:
A Bird’s Eye View: Citizen Science and Social Networks
March 4 – April 22, 2010
Opening Thursday, March 4 7:00pm
Participating in "social networks" is one of today's popular trends, but social networks have been around for a long time in different forms. Like today, they have been used to build awareness of current issues and motivate social action. A Bird's-Eye View: Citizen Science and Social Networks looks at the achievements of several remarkable citizen scientists, past and present, who have effectively used social networking to advance the work of the Connecticut Audubon Society. Mabel Osgood Wright, a resident of Fairfield in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was a skilled "social connector," photographer, author, and activist who was instrumental in securing the Birdcraft wildlife sanctuary and founding the CAS in 1914 through her many contacts in the community. Today teams of volunteer citizen scientists and the staff at CAS centers throughout the state conduct research, incorporating popular social networking technology to support their initiatives. The exhibition, which includes artifacts and documents from the CAS and Fairfield Museum collections as well as other lenders, will explore the evolving work of the CAS, beginning with Wright's history of marshaling community resources, and extending to today's current projects, research tools, and social networks. The exhibition, guest curated by William Frank Mitchell of the CAS .

EXHIBIT: A Bird’s Eye View: Citizen Science and Social Networks

Fairfield Museum and History Center
370 Beach Road
Fairfield CT 06824
Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 10am – 4pm

The aim is help attendees learn and experience simple strategies to assist in their own journey of creating their heart's desire. The group will aid in raising energetic vibration with the intent to manifest long-held dreams.

During this morning session, a guided meditation and visualization will be presented in a sun-filled, artistic setting. Attendants are encouraged to bring a yoga journal and a desire to make clear changes in their own life.

"The Law of Attraction theorizes that thoughts (both conscious and unconscious, positive or negative) dictate the reality of one's own life, whether or not someone is aware of it. Widespread popular interest for the law of attraction reached its peak after the release of the movie, The Secret. After the film's release, the book, Law of Attraction: The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham, by Esther Hicks and Jerry Hicks made the New York Times Best Sellers list, drawing more attention and interest to this topic. In 2007, Oprah Winfrey began a series of interviews during her talk show on the law of attraction."

Linda Busk is a licensed social worker and her methods have been influenced by both Eastern and Western philosophies.
EXHIBIT: A Bird’s Eye View: Citizen Science and Social Networks

Fairfield Museum and History Center
370 Beach Road
Fairfield CT 06824
Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 10am – 4pm

The War on Counterfeit Drugs: How the FDA is Fighting Back

Schumann Auditorium in the Tagliatela College of Engineering (RoomB120)
University of New Haven
300 Boston Post Rd
West Haven, CT
06516
Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 12:15 – 1:30pm

The University of New Haven (UNH) Tagliatela College of Engineering will host a lecture by Peter Gabriele, co-founder and technical director, ARmark Authentication Technologies on “New Pharmaceutical Anti-Counterfeiting Technology: Understanding the Details of Compliance Regulations in Anti-Counterfeit Product Development.” Gabriele will discuss the use of physical-chemical identifiers (PCIDs) in the pharmaceutical industry by the Food and Drug Administration as a counterfeiting control measure. In 2010, it is estimated that counterfeit pharmaceuticals will generate $75 billion in illegal revenues, a 92 percent increase from 2005. PCIDs would curb this growth by helping investigators determine whether drugs are counterfeit by identifying microscopic inclusions on authentic tablets. The event is part of the Spring 2010 Alvine Engineering Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program at UNH and is free and open to the public.

More info: www.newhaven.edu…

EXHIBIT: A Bird’s Eye View: Citizen Science and Social Networks

Fairfield Museum and History Center
370 Beach Road
Fairfield CT 06824
Thursday, March 25, 2010, 10am – 4pm
