The Kinsey Institute Exhibit "A Collector's Vision"

In 2002 an anonymous American collector generously donated more than six hundred original artworks to The Kinsey Institute. This exhibition features nearly 50 pieces from this significant collection, including paintings, prints, and drawings by European artists working in the late eighteenth through mid-twentieth century. Unlike most Kinsey Institute exhibitions that feature artworks acquired from a wide variety of sources, this show provides visitors with the opportunity to view a unique collection that reflects the connoisseurship of a single individual.

The Kinsey Institute Gallery is open 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm weekdays or by appointment. Admission is free. Guided and self-guided tours of The Kinsey Institute are also offered—visit the website or call for information. The Institute is closed on IU holidays.

Visitors should be 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Indiana Cartoons and Cartoonists

From the antics of fat cat Garfield to the cracker-barrel philosophy of Brown County savant Abe Martin, the many creations of Hoosier cartoonists are highlighted in this amusing exhibit, on loan from the Indiana Historical Society. The exhibition explores comic strips, such as "Chic" Jackson's "Roger Bean," which featured the lives of a typical Hoosier family. Some cartoons take on a serious tone like the editorial musings of Pulitzer Prize-winning artist John T. McCutcheon, a fierce opponent of America's entry into World War II.

“Indiana Cartoons and Cartoonists” is on display at the Lawrence County Museum through August 16. Museum hours are 9-4 Tuesday through Friday and 9-3 on Saturday.
