DESCRIPTION:"The Great Influenza" by John Barry \n\nAt the height of WWI
\, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kans
as\, moved east with the troops\, then exploded\, killing an estimated 1
00 million people worldwide. It killed more people in twenty-four months
than AIDS killed in twenty-four years\, more in a year than the Black D
eath killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages\, and 1918 ma
rked the first collision of science and epidemic disease. With broad per
spective and depth of research the book reflects the danger of future fl
u strains. The Great Influenza is a tale of triumph amid tragedy\, provi
ding us with a precise and sobering model as we confront epidemics on ou
r horizon.\n\n\nLocation: Friends of the Library Conference Room\nOther
Information:The Literary Angles meet on the third Tuesday of every month
at 1:30 PM. Book selections are made 3-6 months in advance. Anyone inte
rested in the book discussions are welcome to attend. Each book discussi
