DESCRIPTION:When Grady Reed came into this world\, it wasn't only a bles
sed day\, but a scary one as well. Grady was born premature and suffere
d sepsis throughout his body and under developed lungs. He was life fli
ghted to the NICU at Barnes St. Louis Childrens Hospital. He spent two
weeks in the NICU\, ten of which he required the use of a ventilator. G
rady was never alone during his stay.\n	His parents\, Sam and Missy Reed
\, stood by his side the entire stay. They never left the hospital once
they arrived\, until the day Grady was released. How did they eat\, ba
th\, and wash their clothes during the this trying time? With help from
the Ronald McDonald House Family Room. The Family Rooms are located at
two of the hospitals in St. Louis\, St. John's Mercy Medical Center and
the St. Louis Childrens Hospital.\n	On an average week\, the Family Roo
ms take care of 340 families. The Family Room provides snacks\, drinks
\, personal care items such as soap\, deodorant\, toothbrushes and paste
\, etc. along with the use of laundry facilities. When a family is told
their child has to be life flighted or is in critical condition\, parent
s and families don't think of themselves. Sam and Missy left one hospit
al only to drive to another almost two hours away\, without the time to
stop and fill a bag with clothes and toiletries. They were filled with
worry and fear for their child\, not concern about toothpaste and toothb
rushes. The Family Rooms help parents and family members staying at the
hospital by offering these items at no cost. Along with the personal c
are items\, the Family Rooms also offer a place to relax and watch telev
ision as well as access to the internet\, a life line for some. The int
ernet allows families to pass along vital information to family and frie
nds at home\, as well as receive support and prayers. \n	The Ronald Mcd
onald House its self has 39 bedrooms for families that are staying in th
e area because of a sick or hospitalized child. Even though the house i
s large\, it still has a waiting list that averages 20 families. The fa
milies must live at least 50 miles away and be reffered by the hospital
in which the child is staying. The cost of the families stay is only $5
per night. The rest of the cost is offset by relying on donations by f
amilies\, companies\, and organizations. Many of the families who need
the assistance of the Ronald McDonald House are having financial trouble
 s. Imagine leaving work for a week\, two weeks\, or even a month withou
t pay. Bills would start consuming all of your finances\, and the conce
rn of where you are going to stay creeps into your mind\, when you canno
t afford a hotel. Many times the Ronald McDonald House will waive the $
5 fee\, if a family cannot pay.\nWe are asking individuals and businesse
s for items to donate or monetary donations. We will be selling raffle
tickets for door prizes and silent auction 100% of what we make that d
ay will go to the Ronald McDonald Family Room in St. Louis Children’s Ho
 spital. \n\n\n\n\nWashers Tournament\n \n\nSaturday March 13th 2010\nAt

DESCRIPTION:"The Great Influenza" by John Barry \n\nAt the height of WWI
\, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kans
as\, moved east with the troops\, then exploded\, killing an estimated 1
00 million people worldwide. It killed more people in twenty-four months
than AIDS killed in twenty-four years\, more in a year than the Black D
eath killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages\, and 1918 ma
rked the first collision of science and epidemic disease. With broad per
spective and depth of research the book reflects the danger of future fl
u strains. The Great Influenza is a tale of triumph amid tragedy\, provi
ding us with a precise and sobering model as we confront epidemics on ou
r horizon.\n\n\nLocation: Friends of the Library Conference Room\nOther
Information:The Literary Angles meet on the third Tuesday of every month
at 1:30 PM. Book selections are made 3-6 months in advance. Anyone inte
rested in the book discussions are welcome to attend. Each book discussi
on group covers a large range of topics and crosses between fiction and
 non-fiction titles. \nContact: Katie Kraushaar\nContact Number: 217-223-
