Japan Capstone International

Community The Kentuck Museum Association invites the public to participate in its next a la cARTe event, March 20, 2010, from noon to 2:00pm in the Kentuck Annex in downtown Northport. The Capstone International features Japanese cuisine, culture, and craft, including a Raku pottery demonstration, a tea ceremony demonstration, Kentuck for Kids origami and calligraphy activity. The newly opened Kentuck Annex is located at 1922 Fifth Street, directly behind the Kentuck Museum and Courtyard. The new exhibition space in the Annex will display Japanese art and artifacts provided by the Japan Program of The University of Alabama. Sakura Raku Workshop

Community In cooperation with the Kentuck Art Center, this year's Sakura Festival offers a new way to participate in Japanese culture: creating raku pottery. The distinctive crackled finish of raku results from taking the red-hot pottery from the kiln and plunging it immediately into a medium that ignites, bringing serendipitous beauty to the finished piece. Participants will decorate hand-thrown pottery pieces prepared by Kentuck artists and work with the artists in firing and finishing the pieces. The usual participant fee will be sponsored by the Sakura Festival and includes one piece of pottery; additional pieces for decoration can be purchased at the workshop. Art Night at Kentuck

Community Kentuck Gallery presents recent work by fiber artist David Betak. The opening reception will take place on Art Night April 1, 2010 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. The exhibit will be on display until April 30, 2010. David Betak graduated from The University of Alabama with a BFA in printmaking. Community It is the time of year that Tuscaloosa's finest amateur chefs form a team and prepare and serve their culinary specialties. Community For the third year, the Alabama Blues Project Spring After-School Camp students will showcase their talents in an end-of-the-semester mini blues music festival called the Blues Extravaganza.
