exhibit was recently expanded and includes some of the most popular items from the collection such as artwork, the wedding dress from Lyon and a Peugeot bicycle. In 1949, the Gratitude Train was sent by French citizens in response to the Friendship Train that America sent to them filled with food, clothing and fuel in 1947. The French sent 49 boxcars, one for each state, filled with gifts that were to be disbursed to the people of that state. Arizona’s Governor gave the material to the Arizona State Library where they have remained and cared for over the last 60 years.

Brawl in the Fall

Please be advised that two November events at Pioneer Living History Village & Museum, a nonprofit 501(C)3 facility in Phoenix, are scheduled for the general public.
On November 14 the 11th Annual Rendezvous of Gunfighters takes place from 9:30 to 4:30 in the Pioneer event arena. Hosted by The Arizona Gunfighters (www.arizonagunfighters.com), this event features invited gunfight groups from throughout the Southwest performing their special skits. There will also be a morning costume contest judged by Marshal Trimble, official State Historian, and Mary Brown, head of the National Festival of the West.
On November 21 & 22 the Civil War comes to Pioneer for the "Brawl in the Fall'. Hosted by the Southwest Civil War Association (www.swcwa.com), the event features Union and Confederate encampments and battles. There will also be a Thanksgiving dinner served on the 21st at the Pioneer restaurant at extra charge.

In 1949, the Gratitude Train was sent by French citizens in response to the Friendship Train that America sent to them filled with food, clothing and fuel in 1947. The French sent 49 boxcars, one for each state, filled with gifts that were to be disbursed to the people of that state. Arizona’s Governor gave the material to the Arizona State Library where they have remained and cared for over the last 60 years.

The Gratitude Train: Artifacts from the French Merci Train

exhibit was recently expanded and includes some of the most popular items from the collection such as artwork, the wedding dress from Lyon and a Peugeot bicycle. In 1949, the Gratitude Train was sent by French citizens in response to the Friendship Train that America sent to them filled with food, clothing and fuel in 1947. The French sent 49 boxcars, one for each state, filled with gifts that were to be disbursed to the people of that state. Arizona’s Governor gave the material to the Arizona State Library where they have remained and cared for over the last 60 years.
