Los Angeles Community Forum on Toxics
Hear from local experts about the chemicals in your community, and what you can do about them! In fall 2009, the US House of Representatives passed legislation that could protect over 110 million Americans that live near chemical plants. The Senate will consider this legislation this year.
In California, 344 chemical plants each put 10,000 people at risk, and over a dozen plants here in Los Angeles threaten over 27 million people. Safer alternatives exist, and 28 plants in our state have already converted to safer processes. Join us in Torrance to hear about work being done in the Los Angeles area, California, and the US to manage toxic substances and transition to safer chemical practices. Learn more about how you can take action and get plugged into both local and national efforts.

Solar The Sign Fundraiser #1
Please help make the Hollywood Sign the world's most visible symbol of renewable energy. By lighting it one night a year with solar power, we can raise a million dollars for solar installations in low income neighborhoods, libraries and schools in Los Angeles. Solar power is something Los Angeles, Hollywood, and everyone in the entertainment business can promote as an industry that creates jobs and spurs economic growth. This is not just a 'political position,' this is an obligation we have to the children who are going to inherit whatever kind of Earth we leave to them. Stop by the Isla Cantina, talk shop with your friends from the sustainability and entertainment communities, enjoy great music, and support one of the best stories Hollywood can tell in the coming year. How great will it be when, at next year's Academy Awards, the Hollywood Sign is lit with solar power? This is the first step toward making it happen! We have to do it!
