Ride On Grand Opening and Pancake Breakfast

Porter Ranch Community Events Ride One Therapeutic Horsemanship is holding a pancake breakfast to celebrate the grand opening of their new ranch on Saturday, March 20 in Chatsworth. Ride On is a Chatsworth-based non-profit organization that offers horseback riding as therapy and recreation for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Everyone is encouraged to attend this free, family-friendly event. Come enjoy a delicious breakfast, see Ride On's new expanded facility, and meet the staff, volunteers and participants that make Ride On so special! Y Summit Seekers Hike

Porter Ranch Community Events YMCA Summit Seekers Hike March 6 and 20 Experience the great outdoors with the Summit Seekers, the monthly hiking group from North Valley Family YMCA. The free, guided hikes are open to the community. You need not be a YMCA member to participate. March hikes include an easy, 1.5-mile hike geared for families with younger children, starting at 9 a.m. Sat. March 6 at the Peter Strauss Ranch in Agoura. A second hike at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 20 is a 4.5, moderate hike at the Eagle Rock Loop in Topanga State Park. Hikers meet at the trailhead. Celebrate Chinese New Year With CSUN's China Institute

Porter Ranch Community Events California State University, Northridge's prestigious China Institute is holding a Chinese New Year's Banquet to celebrate the Year of the Tiger. There will be special performances from Master Qian of Shanghai Opera Academy, CSUN Women’s Chorale and China Student Association Performers, delicious food and other festivities. Parking in the new G3 parking structure costs $6. Enter on Dearborn St. from Zelzah Ave. To get to the Grand Salon, walk from the G3 parking structure down Prairie Street to the Student Union. Valley Wide Student Art Show

Porter Ranch Community Events Valley Wide Student Art Show at Chatsworth Depot Train Station Don’t miss the 10th Annual Arts in Education Aid Council art show and festival on Sunday, March 21 at Chatsworth Depot Train Station. Come enjoy wonderful works of art created by talented young students from elementary schools in the San Fernando Valley at this free community art festival. There will be a wide variety of artwork in many different media, by children of all ages from schools in the San Fernando Valley that are participating in AIEAC arts programs.There will also be live music, dance and theatrical performances, food vendors and more. Arts in Education Aid Council (AIEAC) is a non-profit organization independent of LAUSD that was started 10 years ago by a group of parents to restore arts and education programs in public schools. Jogathon

PATH Jogathon, scheduled for Thursday, March 25. Collect your sponsors now! All students will jog or walk around the backstops in the grassy area of the school yard as part of their Physical Education for the day. All monies raised will go to support the supplemental YMCA PE for next year. This program costs about $22,000 a year. If each child brings in sponsorship support of $30, the program will be paid for! YMCA Healthy Kids Day and Camp Sign Up

Porter Ranch Community Events As part of the nationwide YMCA Healthy Kids® Day celebrated at 1,700 YMCA’s across the country, North Valley Family YMCA (www.ymcala.org/nv) holds a free, open-to-the-community, play day for children and families. Activities include: YMCA youth performances, health information booths, healthy cooking demonstrations, inflatable jumpers, rock climbing wall, music, kid’s crafts, raffle and more. Chatsworth Relay for Life

Porter Ranch Community Events Relay For Life of Chatsworth is a 24-hour event meant to increase cancer awareness and raise much-needed funds for the American Cancer Society’s patient service programs, cancer research, advocacy and community education. Local businesses, community groups and community members form teams and raise funds, and then take turns walking around the track for 24 hours on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25. Throughout the Relay, there is entertainment, food, music and lots of fun activities. YMCA Summit Seekers Hike

Porter Ranch Community Events Summit Seekers, the monthly hiking group from North Valley Family YMCA (www.ymcala.org/nv), has set its spring and summer hiking schedule, as well as an August 18 – 21 backpacking trip to Mammoth. The monthly hikes are free and open to the community. The Mammoth trip is $195 per person. April’s hike begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Talepop Trail in Agoura, near the corner of Las Virgenes Rd. and Mulholland Hwy. Distance is 4.6 miles for this moderate-level hike.
