Resource Center

The Resource Center is a public reference area where visitors can learn more about the Native peoples of the Americas and the programs, exhibitions, and collections of the museum. The Center includes an Interactive Learning Center with 18 public-access computers, as well as a work-study area where adults and children can use reference materials and access online information. School groups are welcome in the Resource Center.

Historic Theater: Join the Student Sit-Ins at the Greensboro Lunch Counter

(for all ages) Meet a Civil Rights activist in 1960, just after the Greensboro student sit-in began. Take part in a training session -- based on an actual 1960s manual -- to prepare for your first sit-in and decide if you would have the courage to fight for justice during the Civil Rights movement. These 15- to 20-minute performances reveal the people behind the objects on view and the emotions in their stories.

Author Robert Farris Thompson (Yale University) discusses the cultural history of the tango—from the habanera and candombe dances to milonga to canyengue to tango—with a special focus on its origins as an Afro-Argentine music genre. Metro Mambo Returns: Mambo on Film

Metro Mambo is back. Radio personality Jim Byers, host of WPFW 89.3 FM’s “Latin Flavor: Classic Edition," presents an overview of significant Latin musical movements in Hollywood and world cinema. Clips featured include rare Latin-themed music videos and Hollywood film scenes using Latin music and dances. A dance party follows the program featuring Orquesta La Leyenda.

Historic Theater: Join the Student Sit-Ins at the Greensboro Lunch Counter

(for all ages) Meet a Civil Rights activist in 1960, just after the Greensboro student sit-in began. Take part in a training session -- based on an actual 1960s manual -- to prepare for your first sit-in and decide if you would have the courage to fight for justice during the Civil Rights movement. These 15- to 20-minute performances reveal the people behind the objects on view and the emotions in their stories.
