Trying Opens LBP Season
Charlotte
The first play of the new Lemon Bay Playhouse season , Trying, written by Joanna McClelland Glass and directed by Richard Blanchard, runs from September 1 through 19. This touching character study is based on the true story of Joanna’s experiences from 1967 to 1968 as the secretary of Judge Francis Biddle, who had been Attorney General under Franklin Roosevelt and the Chief American Judge of the International Military Tribunal at the Nuremberg Trials.
Richard Blanchard has chosen two veteran actors for his cast. Ron Bupp, a favorite of LBP audiences, plays the challenging role of Judge Biddle, who functions “somewhere between lucidity and senility” and refuses to give in to ailments that affect his aging body. Kim Fisackerly plays Sarah Shore, an energetic, determined young woman, eager to tackle a new job. We welcome Kim, an experienced community theater performer, to her first appearance at LBP.

Unity of Fort Myers to host World Day of Prayer
FortMyers
Unity of Fort Myers, a spiritual community open to all, will host a number of prayer activities in conjunction with Unity’s World-Wide Ministries Thursday, Sept. 9.
The day also marks the 120th anniversary of Silent Unity, a 24 hours a day, seven days a week, prayer ministry provided to all who request it. The Unity approach to prayer is affirmative, based on positive prayers and affirmations that have universal, interfaith appeal. This day’s activities will be the continuation of 3,784,320,000 seconds of affirmative prayer since Silent Unity’s inception in 1890. The theme for this year’s World Day of Prayer is Living in the Flow.
In the late 1880s, Myrtle Fillmore’s life was transformed when she heard and believed the idea, “I am a child of God and therefore I do not inherit sickness.” Speaking life-affirming words to her tuberculosis-ravaged body, she went on to live a life of health and wholeness.
News of Fillmore’s prayer experience spread, and people near and far began sending their prayer req…

Yappy Hour at Bell Tower Shops continues through summer
FortMyers
The fun heats up at Bell Tower Shops as Yappy Hour & Bowl Stroll continues throughout the summer.
On the second Friday of each month – June 11, July 9, Aug. 13 and Sept.10 – canines and their owners will enjoy the “bowl stroll” throughout the shopping center where blue dog bowls identify the numerous merchants who are pooch-friendly. Dogs must be leashed. The social event is free with beverage proceeds benefiting the Gulf Coast Humane Society.
“Yappy Hour has become a tremendous success,” said Amy Fletcher, director of marketing at Bell Tower Shops. “I know our shoppers look forward to socializing with their dogs and so do our merchants.”
The mission of the Gulf Coast Humane Society is to provide humane care for surrendered animals in Southwest Florida by offering refuge, providing medical care and facilitating an adoptive home. Trying Opens LBP Season
Charlotte
The first play of the new Lemon Bay Playhouse season , Trying, written by Joanna McClelland Glass and directed by Richard Blanchard, runs from September 1 through 19.

Hank Woji Plays LBP Coffee House
Charlotte
On Saturday, September 25, at 7:30 PM, Lemon Bay Playhouse changes from a theater to a coffee house for the night. Roasters Coffee Bar at Village Gifts and Gallery is supplying the free coffee. Hank Woji is supplying the music, as he blends folk, country, bluegrass and rock into his songs. He is an astute writer and an engaging singer whose commentaries remind one of Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and Joan Baez.
According to the Houston Music News, “Hank Woji stands out from the pack of singer/songwriters by conjuring a sound that is at the same time richly textured and intimate… Woji evokes the best elements of Arlo Guthrie and Cat Stevens.”.
