When Professor William Innes Homer, dean of American art historians, examined the life’s work of an unknown artist in 2007, he was stunned by what he found: a large body of extraordinary abstract landscape and figurative paintings by a highly gifted artist who was completely unknown in his lifetime. Soon a team of art historians was conducting research into the life and art of Arthur Pinajian (1914-1999). This exhibit will highlight the museum’s Civil War flag, made by Orange County resident Liana Austin Dolson. The event will highlight women who, like Dolson, sewed for soldiers as individual expressions of support, those that volunteered through aid societies and other organizations, and those who did production sewing for depots, arsenals and contractors. The exhibit will feature a large illustration of Dolson’s family tree, and descendants are invited to visit the museum to ensure their families are properly recorded on the family tree.

Two concurrent exhibits with Philippe Parreno, a series of retrospectives of the French artist’s work that have taken place at the Kunsthalle Zürich, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. Philippe Parreno at and in the Hessel Museum of Art, CCS Bard presents At Home/Not At Home: Works from the Collection of Martin and Rebecca Eisenberg at the Hessel Museum of Arts at Bard.
