Book/poetry readings There will be a reading of "Annabella's Magic Dress" at 7 p.m. "Annabella's Magic Dress" was originally a traveling story that Kathleen created to tell her daughter, Michelle, to entertain her as they drove the long roads through the mountains of Northern California during the early 1980s. At that time they lived 20 miles from the nearest town. Just one of the series of Annabella’s tales was Michelle’s favorite. Kathleen decided to write it down and illustrate it with pen and ink. Twenty-six years later, during the winter that Michelle waited to give birth to her own daughter, Kathleen was inspired to overlay the pictures with the bright warmth of colored pencil and present it to her as a gift. In February of 2008, also Kathleen’s birth month, Bella Rose Marie came into the world, her name inspired by the Annabella story told those long years ago by her grandmother to her mother. Oak Knoll Fire Benefit

Fundraisers The public can help the families who lost homes in the Oak Knoll fire on Aug. 24, 2010, by attending the Oak Knoll Fire Benefit from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Oak Knoll Golf Course, 3070 Highway 66, Ashland. The benefit will feature live entertainment from local impersonator/entertainer, Clint Ingbretson, along with a raffle and silent auction. Play a round of golf (nine holes) for only $8. Appetizers and desserts will be served free of charge and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Suggested donations will be $20 per person or $30 per couple. The Firehouse Five Foundation will also be on hand to accept tax-deductible donations on behalf of the Oak Knoll families.
