Gentle Yoga for Women Healing from Cancer
Knight Cancer Inst.
Come join other women in a supportive environment designed to nourish you. We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. Taught by a nationally certified cancer yoga teacher and assisted by an OHSU oncology nurse and physical therapist.
Women in any stage of healing from cancer are welcome (at least 6 weeks post-surgery). Registration form and a signed release from your primary cancer care provider are required. Space is limited.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for people healing from cancer and/or their caregivers
Knight Cancer Inst.
This session of MBSR is dedicated for people healing from cancer and/or their caregivers. Each class will involve educational presentations on the relationships between stress, health and mindfulness, including meditation instruction and practice, and group discussions. Classes may include very gentle yoga postures. Each student is encouraged to establish a daily meditation practice, and participants are given a course workbook and CDs for home practice.
Two decades of published research suggests that most people who complete the course report an increased ability to relax, reductions in pain levels and enhanced ability to cope with pain, increased ability to cope with stress and lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms.

This September, Funding Focus is going back to the basics with one of our most popular brownbag seminars: Grants 101. The workshop will be held on Thursday, September 9 from noon to 1 p.m. in Mac Hall 2201. It’s open to all researchers and research administrators at OHSU, but it’s perfect for those new to OHSU or to the grant world.
During this hour-long session, you’ll learn (or refresh your memory on) the fundamentals of grant writing, from finding funding to writing a winning proposal. We’ll discuss the current funding climate, plus tell you about resources for internal and other funding opportunities.
This presentation is one of a series of workshops that Research Funding and Development Services (RFDS) offers throughout the year, designed to share advice, tips, and general information on funding for the OHSU research community.

Gentle Yoga for Women Healing from Cancer

Come join other women in a supportive environment designed to nourish you. We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. Taught by a nationally certified cancer yoga teacher and assisted by an OHSU oncology nurse and physical therapist.

MBSR teaches participants to develop specific skills for concentration and deep relaxation. This course is based on the national model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the UMass Medical Center. This session of MBSR is dedicated for people healing from cancer and/or their caregivers. Each class will involve educational presentations on the relationships between stress, health and mindfulness, including meditation instruction and practice, and group discussions. Classes may include very gentle yoga postures. Each student is encouraged to establish a daily meditation practice, and participants are given a course workbook and CDs for home practice.

New Research Tools for Data Collection and Management

OCTRI can provide researchers with tools for data collection and management. REDCap applications are user-friendly—fast and easy to set-up, web-based, and secure—ensuring data quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
This tutorial will provide researchers and their staff with an overview of REDCap capabilities. Attendees will learn how to prepare and create REDCap databases and surveys. Experienced REDCap users can bring specific questions or issues to the drop-in session from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
REDCap offers two secure, web-based applications (REDCap and REDCap Survey) designed to support data management for research studies. REDCap provides: 1) a stream-lined process for rapidly building a database or online survey; 2) a user friendly interface for collecting data; 3) audit trails for tracking data manipulation; 4) exports to common statistical packages; and 5) advanced features, such as branching logic, file uploading, and calculated fields.

Gentle Yoga for Women Healing from Cancer

Come join other women in a supportive environment designed to nourish you. We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. Taught by a nationally certified cancer yoga teacher and assisted by an OHSU oncology nurse and physical therapist.

MBSR teaches participants to develop specific skills for concentration and deep relaxation. This course is based on the national model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the UMass Medical Center. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for people healing from cancer and/or their caregivers

This session of MBSR is dedicated for people healing from cancer and/or their caregivers. Each class will involve educational presentations on the relationships between stress, health and mindfulness, including meditation instruction and practice, and group discussions. Classes may include very gentle yoga postures. Each student is encouraged to establish a daily meditation practice, and participants are given a course workbook and CDs for home practice.
Two decades of published research suggests that most people who complete the course report an increased ability to relax, reductions in pain levels and enhanced ability to cope with pain, increased ability to cope with stress and lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms.

Education
Let's Get Healthy! is a popular interactive education and research exhibit now available for use at area health fairs. Attendees are invited to enroll as research participants where they learn about the research process and the quality of their own diet and body composition. Participants can contribute their anonymous health information to a population database that researchers can use to the scientific relationships among diet, body composition, genetics, and chronic disease. Communities are invited to use the data to develop programs and write grants that support healthy living in the community. Schools can use the data to conduct scientific inquiry lessons with their students, thereby allowing students to examine information like their own energy drink consumption use real, but completely anonymous, data.

What is the Echelon Gran Fondo? It is a European style bicycle race for all levels of cycling ability. Proceeds from the Gran Fondo benefit the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.
Beginning in the heart of downtown Hood River OR, the ride follows the spectacular Historic Columbia River Highway (closed to traffic for the first 6 miles) eastward to The Dalles OR. It is here where the 35 milers turn back to Hood River to the festival. Be ready for a little climbing but take your time because the 60/100 milers continue into the rolling scablands and wheat fields east of The Dalles area. There will be plenty of food and free beer at the festival.

We will engage in gentle stretching, strength building, breathing exercises, deep relaxation with guided imagery, and some aspects of meditation. MBSR teaches participants to develop specific skills for concentration and deep relaxation. This course is based on the national model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the UMass Medical Center. This session of MBSR is dedicated for people healing from cancer and/or their caregivers. Each class will involve educational presentations on the relationships between stress, health and mindfulness, including meditation instruction and practice, and group discussions. Classes may include very gentle yoga postures. Each student is encouraged to establish a daily meditation practice, and participants are given a course workbook and CDs for home practice.
