Fairmount Park - Wissahickon Valley

Day of Service Weather dependant. Tools provided. No special skills needed. They provide thorough orientation, hand-on leadership and an opportunity for reflection at the end. Physical ability is needed to walk in the woods and use hand tools (shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, saws). Rebuild trails, remove invasive vegetation and other tasks to improve habitat for wildlife. Wear old clothes, long pants (jeans best), sturdy shoes (no open toed shoes). Use sunscreen, insect repellant, hats, bandanas, inhalers or bring whatever is needed (epi-pens). Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia

Day of Service Participants should bring a bagged lunch. Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia is in the process of rehabbing a house at 1957 Sparks St in Germantown. The project is now in the finish stages and tasks may include any of the following painting, flooring, cleaning, or any other tasks. No special skills are needed and all equipment and supplies will be provided by Habitat. What to Wear • You will be working on an actual construction site and should dress to outdoors for the full 8 hours of the shift. •Closed-toe shoes or boots are required. Clothes you don't mind getting dirty are strongly encouraged. Light colored, cotton clothing and a hat are recommended for the summer (shorts are okay). Day of Service We will be planting native plant materail in two beds along the towpath of the Manayunk Canal to help with storm water and errosion control. Reach Recovery Tote Bag Project

Day of Service Making pillows and bags from kits for this peer support group. This support group provides support, information and encouragement on a 1:1 basis to newly diagnosed. The bags and pillows are given to each woman referred to the program and are filled with literature related to their diagnosis and treatment. Portable sewing machines are needed. At least one iron and ironing board. Participants can bring sewing kits, scissors and pins because hand sewing can come in handy.
