Chesapeake, Va. -- Towne Place at Greenbrier, located on Eden Way North, just off Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake, has announced the 2010 Summer Concert Series presented by TowneBank. Free concerts will take place every Friday evening from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. beginning May 28 through Sept. 3.
Last year’s concerts were a huge success, attracting hundreds of Chesapeake residents each Friday evening. Beer and wine are served for $4 each, and 100% of proceeds benefits CHIP of Chesapeake (Chesapeake Health Investment Program), an organization dedicated to supporting healthy families and children.

Join author William A. Fox as he discusses his new book Downtown Newport News. Settled in 1621, Newport News has the oldest English place name of any city in the New World. Its name is said to have come from "Newport's news" that supply ships were coming to save the starving Jamestown colonists in 1610. Farming and fishing were the primary occupations until Collis P. Huntington chose Newport News for the eastern terminus of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in the 1870s. In 1886, he founded the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, which has built some of the most famous ships in history. By 1900, a vital city had grown where there were previously only farms and forest. My name is Jake Forehand, I am a co-founder of LocalCycleEvents.com. We are a not for profit events promotion company dedicated to the motorcycle community of the Hampton Roads area. The mission of our company is to help motorcycle event organizers to have more successful events. We at LCE.com organize 3-4 events a year ourselves. We are currently organizing an event that will take place Sep 5 2010, the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. The event will be a historical run through Gloucester County. The run will begin at Gloucester Point, stopping at 5-6 locations throughout Gloucester and including the lighthouse in Mathews County. The riders will receive a short dissertation explaining the historical significance of each site. The ride will end at Damon’s in Gloucester where there will be food, festivities, raffles and live music to celebrate the end of the summer riding season. We would like to help ten families with Free Meals at our restaurant once a day every day until they get a job. There is nothing we want in return but to make sure the hunger is filled. We hope to at least remove one worry out of the many challenges they have to face.

Bicycle & Fire Safety Rodeo

Suffolk Cub Scout Packs, Suffolk Police, Fire and Rescue personnel will be holding their 2nd annual Bicycle & Fire Safety Rodeo on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at King’s Fork High School on King’s Fork Road in Suffolk.
Parents should bring their kids, bicycles and helmets to participate in obstacle courses and tests of skills. Helmets must be worn to participate. The Lynn Chiaverotti Memorial Fund will provide FREE helmets, while supplies last. Bike’s West of Suffolk will conduct free bicycle safety inspections. Suffolk Treasurer’s Office will be available to register all bicycles for $1 each.
Fire and Rescue personnel will be on hand with the Fire Safety House. Parents and their children can tour the house to learn how to avoid fire and safety dangers in our homes.

In life, we all need a boost here and there to keep us going. What we are offering at Cheryl Restaurant is a boost for the people that are in a great financial difficulty. We would like to help ten families with Free Meals at our restaurant once a day every day until they get a job. There is nothing we want in return but to make sure the hunger is filled. We hope to at least remove one worry out of the many challenges they have to face.
It will happen as long as God chooses to allow us to help.
