community events T. J. Anderson III, a poet and literary critic, is associate professor of English at Hollins and has been a member of the faculty since 1998. He holds the M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Michigan and the Ph.D. in English from SUNY Binghamton. He specializes in jazz poetry, African American literature, and the work of Aimé Césaire. His translations of Césaire have been published in "Grand Street," "Folio," and "Alif: Journal of Comparative Poetics." His book of poems, "River to Cross," was published in 2009. A chapbook, "At Last Round Up," was published in 1996, and he has also published works in numerous literary journals such as "Sarasota Review of Poetry," "Sulfur," "lift," and "Indiana Review." In addition, he has produced two poetry and music collaborations: "The Mask" and "Songs of Illumination." He was selected for a Fulbright Scholar Award to lecture and conduct research in Egypt in 2002. Adventurous beginners and continuing watercolor students are invited to learn about techniques and design strategies used to create overall better paintings. Sue will do mini-demonstrations throughout each day, but the students will spend much time pursuing stated goals in their own painting time. Students will participate in discussions and share problems—discovered and resolved—while Sue critiques work as it progresses and identifies weaknesses and strengths, discusses possible improvements and/ or corrections.
