Rod Picott and Amanda Shires – A yankee singer-songwriter and a Texas fiddler might seem an unlikely pairing but the natural chemistry between Rod Picott and Amanda Shires is undeniable. Rising from the sun-driven plains of West Texas is fiddler and singer/songwriter Amanda Shires and from the northern mill towns of New England is Rod Picott.
In the summer of 2007 Rod assembled some of his favorite musicians and recorded another album Summerbirds. Maverick magazine called Summerbirds “as damn near perfect as you can get” and gave the album a full five star review.
Amanda Shires and Rod Picott met at the Folk Alliance Conference in Austin Tx. in 2006. Over the following 2 years they toured throughout the States and Europe playing more than 150 shows together. In the winter of 2008 they began co-writing and recording their debut duo project, titled “Sew Your Heart with Wires” . With nearly a million miles logged and 100,000 records sold, South Carolina’s BLUE DOGS continue to ride the highways, churn out new music, and win over new fans. Founded initially as a part-time love affair for writing and playing music, the BLUE DOGS spent the better part of the early 90’s honing their songs and live show at venues throughout Mid-Atlantic.
Although the band has grown a legion of fans over the years, the BLUE DOGS’ musical diversity has been difficult to classify. Miller, one of the founders of the seminal roots rock band The Vroys, who recorded three albums for Steve Earle and Jack Emerson’s label E-Squared Records–went on to a successful solo career at Sugar Hill records where he released four critically acclaimed albums from 2001 -2008. Throughout his career, Miller has attracted favorable press notices.
