Picnic on the Prairie at Woodland Dunes Nature Center

Kites Over Lake Michigan

The 5th Annual Kites Over Lake Michigan continues to grow in size and reputation. This is now one of the largest kite festivals in the Midwest and attracts kitefliers from all over. Come and marvel at the giant show kites, precision stunt kite teams flying dual- and quad-line kites, spectacular and colorful ground displays, running of the bols and games for kids. Learn how to fly two and quad line stunt kites from the experts representing kite manufacturers. There will be a night fly on Saturday night and a bonfire on the beach. Day on the Alpaca Farm

The 12th annual Day on the Alpaca Farm will be held Saturday, September 4, from 10 am-3 pm at KeLe Alpacas, Kewaunee, WI. The public is invited to tour the alpaca farm, enjoy live music, visit with a number of area alpaca breeders, and walk alpacas through the woods. Spinning, weaving and felting demonstrations, children’s games, face painting and more. Burgers and brats and booyah will be available. Day on the Alpaca Farm is a fundraiser for the Violence Intervention Project (VIP) which provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Kewaunee County. There is no charge for admission to the event, but people are encouraged to make a donation. The alpacas do their fundraising part by taking walks with visitors for $2.00, giving kisses and being a great photo opportunity. Attendees are welcome to pull up a lawn chair and watch the cria (baby alpacas) romp in the pasture. Every fall, hundreds of thousands of tags are placed on migrating monarchs to help scientists answer many questions about their migration pattern. Celebrate the Niagara Escarpment

Come see the newest temporary exhibits at the Weis Earth Science Museum on “the Ledge”—the steep rock cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, which extends across much of North America. This exhibit showcases the paintings of the Water’s Edge Artists, who have formed a collaboration with the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership to conserve Wisconsin precious land and water resources. These artists create their paintings “on location” in nature (en plein air). All paintings on exhibit at the Weis are available for purchase. Also featured is a mini-exhibit highlighting the geology and history of the Niagara Escarpment. It includes a game to see if you can match photos of the ledge to their location. Diocese offers Café Cana™, a date night series for married couples

The Family and Married Life Office of the Diocese of Green Bay announces Café Cana™ a series of evenings for married couples. Free babysitting is provided by Virtus-trained and certified care givers. Beginning Tuesday, September 14, Family-to-Family Education classes are being offered in Chilton at the Fox Valley Technical College building from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm for twelve consecutive weeks. The class is free and is geared to family members dealing with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, panic disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder, and possibly a co-occurring substance abuse problem. Family-to-Family provides caregivers with communication and problem-solving techniques, coping mechanisms and the self-care skills needed to deal with their loved one’s mental illness as well as its impact on the family. This course teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively. Celebrate the Niagara Escarpment

Come see the newest temporary exhibits at the Weis Earth Science Museum on “the Ledge”—the steep rock cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, which extends across much of North America. This exhibit showcases the paintings of the Water’s Edge Artists, who have formed a collaboration with the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership to conserve Wisconsin precious land and water resources. These artists create their paintings “on location” in nature (en plein air). All paintings on exhibit at the Weis are available for purchase. Also featured is a mini-exhibit highlighting the geology and history of the Niagara Escarpment. It includes a game to see if you can match photos of the ledge to their location. Tee'd Off at MS Charity Golf Outing

5th Annual Walk for Wildlife

Participants can choose to walk on a scenic 2.5 trail or quarter-mile paved walk for strollers and wagons. Animal ambassadors, such as hawks, skunks, owls and porcupines will greet people as they hike the trail. In addition to meeting ambassadors, walkers will encounter artifacts and other interesting information along the way. Registration forms can be picked up at the Sanctuary or downloaded at www.baybeachwildlife.com. Walkers have the option of collecting pledges in addtion to the walk fee. SNC Day

The paintings of Marjorie Mau will be on display during the “Re-Presenting Place” exhibition Sept. 2-22 in the St. Norbert College Baer Gallery of the Bush Art Center. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. when classes are in session. Admission is free. A special reception for Mau will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, 7-8:30 p.m. Mau will be teaching Introduction to Painting at St. Norbert College this fall only.
