The 5th Annual Kites Over Lake Michigan continues to grow in size and reputation. This is now one of the largest kite festivals in the Midwest and attracts kitefliers from all over. Come and marvel at the giant show kites, precision stunt kite teams flying dual- and quad-line kites, spectacular and colorful ground displays, running of the bols and games for kids. Learn how to fly two and quad line stunt kites from the experts representing kite manufacturers. There will be a night fly on Saturday night and a bonfire on the beach. Day on the Alpaca Farm
The 12th annual Day on the Alpaca Farm will be held Saturday, September 4, from 10 am-3 pm at KeLe Alpacas, Kewaunee, WI. The public is invited to tour the alpaca farm, enjoy live music, visit with a number of area alpaca breeders, and walk alpacas through the woods. Spinning, weaving and felting demonstrations, children’s games, face painting and more. Burgers and brats and booyah will be available.
Day on the Alpaca Farm is a fundraiser for the Violence Intervention Project (VIP) which provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Kewaunee County. There is no charge for admission to the event, but people are encouraged to make a donation.
The alpacas do their fundraising part by taking walks with visitors for $2.00, giving kisses and being a great photo opportunity. Attendees are welcome to pull up a lawn chair and watch the cria (baby alpacas) romp in the pasture.

SNC Day is the college’s open house celebration featuring food, entertainment, boat rides, science demonstrations, cultural festivities, building tours, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more. Celebrate the Niagara Escarpment
Come see the newest temporary exhibits at the Weis Earth Science Museum on “the Ledge”—the steep rock cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, which extends across much of North America.
This exhibit showcases the paintings of the Water’s Edge Artists, who have formed a collaboration with the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership to conserve Wisconsin precious land and water resources. These artists create their paintings “on location” in nature (en plein air). All paintings on exhibit at the Weis are available for purchase.
Also featured is a mini-exhibit highlighting the geology and history of the Niagara Escarpment. It includes a game to see if you can match photos of the ledge to their location. The Weis is open seven days a week to the public. Please check our website or give us a call for our business hours.

Beginning Tuesday, September 14, Family-to-Family Education classes are being offered in Chilton at the Fox Valley Technical College building from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm for twelve consecutive weeks. The class is free and is geared to family members dealing with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, panic disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder, and possibly a co-occurring substance abuse problem.
Family-to-Family provides caregivers with communication and problem-solving techniques, coping mechanisms and the self-care skills needed to deal with their loved one’s mental illness as well as its impact on the family. This course teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively.
Since 1993, NAMI Wisconsin family volunteers have been teaching the NAMI Family-to-Family Education program. This program is presented by NAMI Fox Valley and sponsored by the Calumet County Department of Health and Human Services with a grant from Mental Health America.

Celebrate the Niagara Escarpment
Come see the newest temporary exhibits at the Weis Earth Science Museum on “the Ledge”—the steep rock cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, which extends across much of North America.
This exhibit showcases the paintings of the Water’s Edge Artists, who have formed a collaboration with the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership to conserve Wisconsin precious land and water resources. These artists create their paintings “on location” in nature (en plein air). All paintings on exhibit at the Weis are available for purchase.
Also featured is a mini-exhibit highlighting the geology and history of the Niagara Escarpment. It includes a game to see if you can match photos of the ledge to their location. The Weis is open seven days a week to the public. Please check our website or give us a call for our business hours.

Mark your calendars. The Tee’d Off at MS Charity Golf Outing will be held on Friday, September 17th, 2010 at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, WI. All proceeds will go to The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, helping to fund research and education to help find a cure. Volunteers, sponsors and of course, golfers are all needed to make this event a success.
The 18-hole scramble begins with a 12:00 pm shotgun start. A box lunch will be served on the course and a picnic dinner will be held in the clubhouse afterward. Door prizes, silent auction and a raffle will be available to all golfers and attendees. Golf registration is $80 per person and is open to the public. Sponsorship opportunities are available ranging from $100–$3000.

The Greater Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is calling upon Northeast Wisconsin residents to form their teams for the 2010 Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk.

5th Annual Walk for Wildlife
Participants can choose to walk on a scenic 2.5 trail or quarter-mile paved walk for strollers and wagons. Animal ambassadors, such as hawks, skunks, owls and porcupines will greet people as they hike the trail. In addition to meeting ambassadors, walkers will encounter artifacts and other interesting information along the way. Registration forms can be picked up at the Sanctuary or downloaded at www.baybeachwildlife.com. Walkers have the option of collecting pledges in addtion to the walk fee. Registration with a shirt is $15 for adults (13 and up) and $7 for kids (12 and under). Registration only (with a t-shirt) is $10 for adults and free for kids. All proceeds benefit the Sanctuary's animal rehabilitation program.

SNC Day
St. Norbert College is opening its doors to the community on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the college’s second annual “SNC Day.”
The event will feature food, two stages of entertainment, children’s activities, arts and crafts, boat rides on the Fox River, mini-lectures, and several events at the College’s new Donald J. Schneider Athletic Stadium. A Lamers trolley will provide transportation from the main campus to the stadium, where additional events will be held. A Punt, Pass and Kick competition will run 9 a.m. to noon sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The event is open to all boys and girls, ages 7-12; pre-registration is not required. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m. Other events at the stadium include the Fox Valley Classic Car show, and an opportunity to meet and “shoot a puck” with the St. Norbert College men’s and women’s hockey teams.

FOUNDATION DINNER TO SUPPORT CHEMO SUITE
The Wolf River Healthcare Foundation expects hundreds at its Seventh Annual Dinner on Tues. Sept. 21, at Crystal Falls Banquet Facility in New London. Funds raised by the event, themed “An Autumn Gala,” will support the relocation and expansion of the chemotherapy suite at New London Family Medical Center.
“Community participation in the Foundation’s annual dinner has helped meet many local healthcare needs over the years, including the Birth Center and the new ambulance,” said Foundation board president Harry Radix. “This year, we’re excited to rally the community around building a new chemotherapy suite at New London Family Medical Center. This important project will offer great comfort to cancer patients in our community.”
“The current chemotherapy room’s size and layout can make it difficult for patients to have loved ones nearby while they receive infusions. It also makes it challenging for nurses to provide care,” said Foundation executive director Deborah Johnson.

International Film - New Year Baby by Socheata Poeuv
A documentary by speaker, filmmaker, and activist Socheata Poeuv on her Khmer American experience. New Year Baby has received rave reviews at film festivals around the country and has received many awards.
Please park in Parking Lot F, walk through the Center for Business & Industry Building, and follow signs to the film.
A discussion may follow the film led by students. Film maker Socheat Poeuv will speak at NWTC on the following Wednesday. Time to be determined.

The paintings of Marjorie Mau will be on display during the “Re-Presenting Place” exhibition Sept. 2-22 in the St. Norbert College Baer Gallery of the Bush Art Center. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. when classes are in session. Admission is free.
A special reception for Mau will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, 7-8:30 p.m.
Mau will be teaching Introduction to Painting at St. Norbert College this fall only. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
