WEEK 1: PhD students and postdocs may say, “I’m going to ‘industry’ when I finish my training at Emory.” But what does that really mean? Drugs, tools or devices? A Drug Discovery role in big pharma, or a Drug Development role in a startup? Do you need to complete a postdoc before I can attain those jobs? Do I want a job as a Medical Scientist, or as an Applications Scientist? Clinical Research or Drug Safety?
There are so many potential options to pursue, and each one requires a different understanding of the job market, and different preparation steps. In this workshop, we will present a classification and description of industry careers that will help you learn about your industry options in a structured way. Using examples of PhD’s who have successfully moved into a wide variety of post-training paths, you will consider what you can do now to be marketable for your chosen path, when you finish your training.
