La Pintoresca Branch Library, Octavia’s Bookshelf and The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens are partnering to bring a unique book club to Pasadena where we’ll read and discuss the works of Octavia Butler and other Science Fiction authors of color.

Saturday, Feb. 24 • 3 p.m. In person: La Pintoresca Branch Library 1355 N. Raymond Ave. • Pasadena Author/Researcher Talk -- Dr. Kendra R. Parker, Associate Professor of African American Literature at Georgia Southern University and author of The Bloomsbury Handbook to Octavia E. Butler
Dr. Parker will join us from Georgia on Zoom, to present her lecture: "Walking a Mile in Her Shoes: Exploring Octavia E. Butler's Archives." We'll get to follow along in Dr. Parker's exploration of Los Angeles and Pasadena, and learn about Butler's life, on the 18th anniversary of Butler's death. Dr. Parker will be available to answer questions and share the many deep insights she gained into Butler's personal life from studying Butler's papers.
