"Living History" is aimed to provide us with an immersive and authentic encounter with historical events. It endeavors to bridge the gap between textbook accounts and the lived experience of those who have directly participated in or witnessed pivotal moments in history. This personal connection to history deepens our understanding and equips us with the means to impart a more vivid and holistic narrative to our students.
In this session, we will delve into the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. David J. Dennis Sr., a distinguished civil rights activist, an original Freedom Rider, field secretary for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), co-director for Freedom Summer 1964, co-organizer of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party who worked closely with Bob Moses to advance the cause of equality in Mississippi. Today, Dr. Dennis continues his lifelong commitment to social change as a founder, executive director, and consultant for The Southern Initiative Algebra Project, Inc.
