Purpose: Many programs have implemented implicit bias and diversity education for residents and teaching faculty. While many appreciate the importance of integrating implicit bias training into curricula, a common criticism is that attendees still feel ill equipped to move from moral distress to individual improvement and real-time interventions. Leveling Up 2.0 is our residency program’s next phase in working towards a more anti-racist and inclusive workplace. As part of this commitment, our program debuted Leveling Up 2.0 to engage trainees in the ongoing work of anti-racism, moving beyond passive learning to action-oriented, situation-specific tools for bias mitigation and engaging as upstanders that can be used immediately. Our interactive sessions place emphasis on practice, shared learning, and growth, recognizing that these are needed conversations that must evolve over time.
