Storytelling is an essential human experience across languages and cultures. By listening to each other’s stories, we connect, heal and grow. Dr. Paul will start with her personal story, connecting to the question “why should we listen?” She will then share her students’ stories and introduce a storytelling project implemented in her Chinese language courses that draws on the differences, talents and strengths of the students. Situating the discussion in a broad diversity context, she will showcase how the opportunities to express, and being heard promote learner agency and create multiple pathways of growth. To continue the discussion, she will introduce the Oxford panelists who will share their stories and reflections on AAPI identity.
