On the eve of the one year anniversary of the fires, we invite you to join fellow Altadenian Kiki Williams to move, shake, and breathe in community. In this 90-minute somatic workshop, we will come together through a series of practices to slow down, find rest from the movement of this past year, and tap into our own intrinsic capacity to care for ourselves and each other. Registration Required.
WHAT IS SOMATICS?Somatics is any number of practices that connect us more deeply to the sensations and experiences of our bodies. It is a way to bring more awareness into our bodies and direct experiences. From this awareness, we become more connected to life as it lives and moves through us.
With support from Direct Relief, the Altadena Library District is partnering with local organizations to offer workshops, trainings, and other activities for all ages that promote community health and well-being in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire. The funding will also help create a collection of wellness materials and supplies available for patrons to access during their visits. In addition, plans include hosting a mental health fair featuring engaging, evidence-based activities designed to support emotional resilience and connection.About the presenterKiki WillIams (she/they) is a third generation Altadenian who shows up in her life these days as a multi-passionate human being in pursuit of both personal and collective freedom. When she’s not managing Octavia’s Bookshelf and slinging juicy queer fiction, you can find her traipsing through the mountains, reading, or leading folks in somatic and relational mindfulness.
